Flash Gordon 1980

The soundtrack album to the science fiction movie Flash Gordon was produced in 1980 Queen..

All but two of the tracks on the album (”Flash’s Theme” and “The Hero”) are instrumentals. The album makes extensive use of synthesizers, which Queen had employed for the first time on their previous album, The Game.

“Flash’s Theme” was the only single released from the album, under the title “Flash”. It reached number 10 in the UK charts and number 1 in Austria. The track is notable for its pounding, repetitive bassline and the camp humor from snippets of dialogue from the movie.
There are actually two versions of the song. The album version (”Flash’s Theme”) is in fact the start to the movie, with all the dialog from the first scene. However, the single version (”Flash”) features parts of the dialog taken from various parts of the movie.

The last track, “The Hero”, while an individual song, reprises the main motif from “Flash’s Theme”.

Queen The Game 1980

The Game was released by Queen on June 30, 1980. It is the only Queen album to reach #1 in both Britain and the United States It has become Queen’s best selling studio album in the US with four million copies sold to date, yet is only 35 minutes long. The Game is the shortest of Queen’s studio albums. Most popular songs on the album are “Another One Bites the Dust” and the rockabilly “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, both of which reached number 1 in the United States. As Queen kept up with the musical, The Game was the first album to use a synthesizer (an Oberheim OB-X). The album’s working title was “Play the Game”, but Taylor was concern about its possible overtones of conformity, so the band changed to “The Game”.
